Vladimir Putin heads to North Korea with war and weapons on the agenda – BBC News

The outside world is the only person who North Korea permits to see what it wants them to.

As a previous Seoul correspondent covering North Korea, I observed how political appearances were carefully planned and presented for Asian Central Television.

With a moving music and literary narrative from state media, this is probably not different from any other. Additionally, the devices may be looking for the best photos of President Putin and Kim Jong Un up.

Until those media accounts, we may understand very little about what’s happening on the ground. We rely on satellite imagery and aircraft monitors to follow planes and prepares for landing.

The North Korean government maintains control by keeping its 25 million citizens hidden behind a system of brutal repression and loneliness. A system of smuggled smart phones close to the Chinese border is frequently the only way for writers to learn about what’s happening, but even that mode of communication has declined in recent years.

The vast majority of Pyongyang’s international community of aid employees and diplomats left after North Korea imposed tight Covid- 19 limitations. Some trustworthy eyes are left who can provide us with a true picture of the program.
