According to police in this southern province’s SURAT THANI, a phuyaiban, or village chief, was attacked on Sunday in the Tha Chana region and later passed away from his injury.

Samnao Kraiket, the village chief of Moo 11 in tambon Khlong Pha, was left injured in the assault, along with a broken leg and brain. On the way to the doctor, he passed away.

A flock of 9 to 11 wild animals had entered an oil palm grove at Thap Saming Khla, the Moo 11 town, and started feeding and stripping the plants, according to authorities who were called to the community.

Samnao led a group of volunteers from four villages in an effort to drive the animals apart from their plants and back into the forest. He was attacked by a calf elephant and baby during the procedure.

The elephants’ president was lost despite the volunteers’ best efforts to fight them back into the forest. Samnao passed away while traveling to Tha Chana Hospital after suffering severe injury.

According to the people, wild animals generally raid plants in the Tha Chana district’s tambon Khlong Pha and tambON Prasong places. Over the years, they had killed or injured a lot of people.
