Vietnamese woman wins 'world's toughest' triathlon

HANOI (Vietnam News/Asia News Network): Vu Phuong Thanh (Thanh Vu) has become the first Vietnamese in history to not only full but also win the particular Swiss Ultra Deca Continuous Triathlon Globe Championship, the most serious triathlon competition on earth.

Thanh completed first in the women’s category in the event which ended in Switzerland on Sunday using a time of 328 hrs 27 minutes and 55 seconds.

She swam 38km, cycled 1, 800km and ran 422km over 14 days.

Because the event was so harsh and extremely challenging, there were just 23 athletes from all over the world taking part, nineteen men and four women.

Thanh was your only representative of Vietnam in this tournament.

She said: “This was a very unique experience indeed. During the race, there were several athletes from many different countries. Athletes frequently exchanged, shared encounters and inspired one another. Cycling at night furthermore made us feel very sleepy, so we rode and talked to one another.

“President from the World Triathlon Nationwide Federations told me that in the past 30 years, just around 100 individuals have completed the World Champ Deca Ultra Triathlon. It was certainly not easy to complete this event, this seemed like I couldn’t do it. ”

Notably, a 60-year-old woman from Italy, Nadine Zacharias furthermore completed this competition.

Meanwhile, the champion of the mens category was Kenneth Vanthuyne of Belgium who only needed eight days to complete all categories.

Thanh was born within 1990 in Hanoi. She is known as “the girl who runs around the world”, or even “desert rose”. In 2016, she grew to become the first Asian to operate through the four worst deserts in the world using a total distance of 1, 000km.

These were the Atacama Wilderness in Chile, Gobi Desert in The far east, Sahara Desert in North Africa, as well as the Antarctica Desert in Antarctica.

Most recently, Thanh completed a challenging mountain run at the Everest Path Race.
