The Thai army reported that a Taiwanese fisherman with four crew members was detained on Thursday for carrying out illegal fishing in Thai territorial waters.

After receiving information about illegal fishing north of Koh Kra, Second Naval Area Command assistant captain, RAdm Phichit Srirungruang, ordered the HTMS Sattahip to police.

A vessel with four staff members trying to avoid detection was discovered by the military working with the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center, which is located 60 nautical kilometers away from the nearest boat.

When apprehended, the ship and its crewmen were taken to Songkhla Naval Base for constitutional trials. Before being handed over to the local authorities, the team was interrogated using an interpreter.

The crew members from Vietnam may be accused of operating a fishing boat without authorization, engaging in business hunting in Thai waters, and operating a fishing boat without authorization.

Since October 2023, the Next Naval Area Command has held 13 warships and 65 team members in detention for eight of these since October 2023. The army has made more work in accordance with instructions to stop foreign fishing boats from entering Thai waters.
