Vietnam president resigns after one year on the job, government says

In a sign of political unrest that could hurt foreign investors ‘ confidence in the nation, the Vietnamese Communist Party on Wednesday ( Mar 20 ) accepted President Vo Van Thuong’s resignation, the government said in a statement citing” shortcomings.”

The government claimed in a statement that Thuong broke group rules, adding that those deficiencies had “negatively impacted people opinion, affecting the party’s status, the position, and him professionally.”

The Central Party Committee, a major decision- making figure in Communist Party- ruled Vietnam, approved Thuong’s withdrawal only about a year after his election.

The leader is one of the best four political opportunities in the Southeast Asian nation, but he mostly performs royal duties.

The agency’s meeting preceded an unusual treatment of Vietnam’s rubber- stamping parliament scheduled on Thursday when deputies are expected to ensure the party’s decisions.
