Video screens showing approaching buses may be installed at problematic stop opposite Parkway Parade

SINGAPORE: A new vehicle stop with displays that show images of approaching buses may be installed that have confounded commuters due to poor visibility.

Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat acknowledged that the bus stop opposite Parkway Parade Mall had a “downside,” but on Saturday ( Jul 6), she explained the reasons behind its design and location.

Mr. Chee added that he had instructed the Land Transport Authority ( LTA ) to look into options that might help the issue in a Facebook post.

The vehicle stop, located outside Marine Parade MRT Station’s return 2, has arches lined up at the front of the vehicle stop, as opposed to the rear, as it is usually done.

LTA, speaking to Immediately on Friday, attributed this to site considerations like underwater drains and space constraints. In his Instagram post, Mr. Chee explained that building pillars at the back of the bus stop did prevent upcoming repair work.

He made a point about installing monitors that point towards oncoming traffic and display the images on displays inside the vehicle stop while responding to commuters ‘ concerns that the front pillars in front of approaching buses blocked approaching buses.

” In this way, riders who are seated inside the vehicle stop can see the coming cars and have more time to get ready for their boarding,” he wrote.

” I have instructed LTA to take into account this recommendation and other options to make the vehicle stop more user-friendly for commuters.”

If this worked, Mr Chee said, the same could be applied to various bus starts that encounter the same problem.
