SHANGHAI: Four individuals at a renowned Shanghai in china hospital were injured by a knife-wielding assailant on Saturday (Jul 9), in the 2nd reported stabbing event after a COVID-19 lockdown of the financial centre was lifted earlier in June.
Officers ran to the more than 100-year-old Ruijin Hospital on Saturday morning right after receiving calls about an attack, police stated.
Videos on social media showed mayhem as visitors clambered under turnstiles to get out of the hospital whilst doctors were observed running out using their patients, some within wheelchairs and one on a mobile bed.
A long trail of blood was noticed on the marble surface of a flight associated with stairs in one movie.
“It’s extremely shocking, ” said a Shanghai resident who had showed up for a check-up soon after the hospital was sealed off, declining to give her name. “This is very despairing. What has happened for this society? ”
Hospitals are a flashpoint for many in Cina, who face issues from touts illegally trading appointment tickets, long queues to see doctors, and problem that can push in the cost of receiving treatment.
Reports of patients assaulting physicians are also common.
At the Shanghai medical center, police found a guy holding a crowd hostage with a knife around the seventh floor from the outpatient department. Once the man threatened to hurt the hostages, the police opened fireplace, subduing him, based on local police.
None of the wounded is in a life-threatening situation and the event is being investigated, the police said.
Ruijin Hospital has been cordoned off, and all meetings cancelled, an officer told onlookers outdoors.
