A bus fell into a valley in Uttarakhand, India’s northern state, killing at least 36 people and injuring many others.
Authorities said 44 people were on board when the driver lost power and the vehicle fell into a 50m-deep drain in Marchula, located in the state’s Almora area.
An investigation into the incident has been ordered by the state govt.
In the Himalayan position, cars are the primary mode of transportation, and injuries are not unusual.
The vehicle was traveling through the country’s Ramnagar district on Monday when the accident occurred.
The severely damaged auto overturned at the base of a hill, according to the site’s photos and videos.
Some passengers passed away instantly, while those who were hurt were rushed to local hospitals. Recovery efforts are still being conducted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India has condolences for the victims ‘ families.
He has announced compensation of 200, 000 rupees ]$ 2378, £1834] for the families of the deceased and 50, 000 rupees to those who were wounded.
Additionally, the deputy minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has made financial aid available for the victims and their families.
Cars are a common mode of transportation in India, particularly between smaller cities and towns. But, operators often flout health rules and overburden them beyond capacity.
The highest number of fatalities in India annually is 160, 000, primarily as a result of speeding and negligent moving.
