Mouthpiece Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam on Monday challenged those who think the eight-year restrict on Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha’s premiership ought to expire this month to seek a Constitutional Court ruling over the matter.

He was responding to six opposition parties led by Cholnan Srikaew, leader from the main opposition Pheu Thai Party, that on Sunday threatened to seek a courtroom interpretation ahead of Aug 24 when they think Gen Prayut’s period should expire.

A House of Representatives legal team claimed Gen Prayut’s term technically started on June 9, 2019, when his premiership received regal endorsement under the 2017 constitution. This means he’d be entitled to serve till up to 2027.

The resistance, however , has consistently insisted that Style Prayut’s maximum eight-year tenure ends this month, based on the thinking that his premiership began the day he or she was installed since the head of the now-defunct National Council intended for Peace and Order (NCPO) after the 2014 coup.

The mouthpiece prime minister insisted Gen Prayut has not appointed a working group to study his tenure issue and the federal government has no plan to tackle a court ruling either way.

Asked whether Style Prayut would be suspended if the Constitutional Courtroom accepts the petition, Mr Wissanu said that would be decided by the court.

Earlier, Mr Wissanu said Deputy Perfect Minister Prawit Wongsuwon would become interim prime minister in case Gen Prayut needed to leave office.

It is realized that parliament president Chuan Leekpai would certainly then call a vote in parliament to find a replacement primary minister.
