Mouthpiece Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam yesterday challenged those who believe the particular eight-year limit upon Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha’s premiership should terminate this month to seek a Constitutional Court ruling on the issue.

This individual was responding to six opposition parties directed by Cholnan Srikaew, leader of the main opposition Pheu Thai Party, who on Sunday threatened to seek a court presentation ahead of Aug 24 when they believe Gen Prayut’s tenure should expire.

Mister Wissanu, a top legal expert, said Gen Prayut can legally serve for up to 8 years as best minister as stipulated by Section 158 of the constitution. “If the court guidelines his premiership were only available in 2014, so whether it is, ” he mentioned.

Inquired whether Gen Prayut needed to be present in the court if the opposition parties filed the petition, Mr Wissanu said the courtroom would not summon the prime minister, but it may gather opinions through the government agencies in the form of letters.

Mr Wissanu also said the situation offers reached the phase where the government should prepare for a response from the court.

The deputy best minister insisted Style Prayut has never appointed a working team to study his tenure concern and the government does not have any plan to address the court ruling either way.

Requested whether Gen Prayut would be suspended if the Constitutional Court allows the petition, Mr Wissanu said that would be decided by the court.

Previously, Mr Wissanu said Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon might become interim best minister in the event Style Prayut had to depart office.

It is understood that parliament president Chuan Leekpai would after that call an election in parliament to locate a replacement prime minister.
