According to police and her doctor, an American girl was discovered “screaming” in a bush in northern Maharashtra and had shackled herself.
After herders audibly heard Lalita Kayi’s cries for help, she was rescued from the dense forests of the Sindhudurg area about ten days ago.
She claimed in a written statement to the officers that her father” chained her and left her to death in the forest to die without food or water.”
Ms Kayi, who is receiving care in a medical center, has not spoken publicly. The US embassy has even refused to comment, citing her right to privacy.
India was shocked by Ms. Kayi’s identification, and officers had assembled several teams to look into her whereabouts.
Ms. Kayi had previously claimed she was never married and that she was perhaps having illusions when she gave her first assertion, according to Saurabh Agarwal, superintendent of police for Sindhudurg.
She told them she was upset because her card expired and she was running out of money, so she bought locks and bars and tied herself to a tree.
The medical medical where Ms. Kayi is receiving treatment, Dr. Sanghamitra Phule, the superintendent, stated to BBC Marathi that “her condition is improving.”
” She eats, excursions and even exercises. We are also providing her with nourishment that her figure was lacking.
Dr. Phule claimed that Ms. Kayi had spoken to her on the phone and that her relatives had been located in the US.
A cow sheep discovered her on July 27 after she heard” a woman screaming noisily” while herding his cattle for grazing in the forest.
” The sound was coming from the mountainside bush.” One of her arms was tucked into a tree when I visited her there. She was screaming like an dog. I called the local authorities and other people.
They saved her after they sawed off the network. Ms Kayi, who appeared entirely emaciated, was taken to doctor and after her physical wellbeing improved, she was moved to the medical center for additional treatment.
Police claimed to have found a duplicate of her passport, which stated she was a Massachusetts resident, as well as some other documents containing her household address in Tamil Nadu. She also had a mobile phone, a tablet and 31, 000 rupees ($ 370, £290 ) in her possession.
Ms. Kayi scribbled notes on a pad to communicate with the authorities and doctors after she was immediately able to communicate.
She claimed that a Tamil Nadu gentleman had tied her to a tree because she was married to him there. She claimed to have spent 40 days without getting food and water. She was questioned by police, who claimed it was doubtful for someone to go so much without food or water.
