US repatriates two Guantanamo Bay detainees to Malaysia

The US Department of Defense announced the repatriation of two Guantanamo Bay detainees to Malaysia on Wednesday ( Dec. 18 ), with the statement that the country was preparing to implement a reintegration program for the two men.

According to a declaration from the defense office, Mohammed Farik al Amin and Mohammed Nazir al Lep had each pleaded guilty to numerous crimes before a defense fee.

” In conversation with our partners in Malaysia, we completed the requirements for accountable transfer”, the ministry said in a statement.

Both gentlemen received recommendations to be repatriated or transferred to a second state to serve the remainder of their words in June when they were given the option of being imprisoned for roughly five years, according to the office.

Saifuddin Nasution, Malaysia’s home secretary, confirmed that the government had welcomed the two Guantanamo Bay prisoners and that the procedure was based on the principles of individual freedom and common justice.

Saifuddin claimed that the US government had given them a customized program for their reconciliation after they had been held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, since 2006.

” The government has planned a comprehensive reconciliation program specifically for both people, which includes aid service, welfare, and health checks”, he said.

The two gentlemen had pled guilty to crimes that included murder in violation of rules on warfare, intentionally causing severe bodily injury, crime, and destruction of property, according to the defence ministry speech.
