US defence chief ‘deeply concerned’ by China’s lack of military dialogue

SINGAPORE: United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin expressed his deep concern over China’s refusal to participate in defense crisis management on Saturday( June 3 ) and cautioned that conversations are essential to preventing conflict.

As they continue to be bitterly divided over everything from Taiwan’s independence to spying and territorial issues in the South China Sea, the relationship between the United States and China is at its lowest level in years.

Open lines of communication between US and Chinese defense and military leaders, Austin stated at Asia’s major security mountain, were crucial to bolster security in the Asia-Pacific region and develop guard rails against issue.

Austin expressed his deep concern that the PRC ( People’s Republic of China ) has been unwilling to take a more serious stance on better mechanisms for problems management between our two army during the Shangri-La Dialogue, the best security gathering in Asia, in Singapore.

The more we converse, the better able we are to prevent errors and errors that could result in a crisis or issue.

Li Shangfu, China’s chancellor of national defense, turned down an invitation to join Austin at the security conference this year.

The two shook hands on the conference floor on Friday, but there was no” substantive exchange ,” according to the Pentagon. Li gives his personal statement every Sunday.

The future of Taiwan, a self-governing region that Beijing wants to annex, is one of the two superpowers’ most contentious safety concerns.

With the US involved in any conflict, there are growing worries that China had attack Taiwan.

” How harmful our planet would become if big countries may only enter their quiet neighbors with impunity ,” Austin said, citing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as an illustration.

He asserted that the US opposes punitive shifts from either side and is” greatly dedicated” to maintaining Taiwan’s status quo.

Discord is neither inevitable nor inevitable. Now, punishment is powerful, and it’s our responsibility to keep it that way, Austin said.
