Typhoon Yagi weakens after hitting Vietnam’s capital Hanoi

HANOI: Typhoon Yagi weakened on Sunday ( Sep 8 ) after killing at least three people in Vietnam’s capital Hanoi, flooding many neighbourhoods, downing thousands of trees and damaging houses, the government said.

Authorities warned of continued heavy rains, display floods and landslides in northeastern Vietnam, where the wind, downgraded from a very tornado, has killed at least seven and injured dozens since making ashore on Saturday evening, according to initial projections.

According to the most recent release from local officials, Asia’s most strong storm this month claimed the lives of four people on the southern Chinese area of Hainan. The Philippines, which was the first nation Yagi hit, increased the death toll from 16 to 20 on Sunday, with 22 people still missing, according to the legal defense company in the country.

The southern state of Thanh Hoa and the northern hilly regions were both affected by the weather agency’s warning about “risk of display floods near little rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes in some places,” according to Vietnam’s weather firm, which reported that Yagi had weakened to a tropical depression by 4am on Sunday.
