At least 63 people have died and 40 others have been missing in northern Vietnam as a result of Typhoon Yagi and the landslides and floods it caused, according to the government on Tuesday ( Sep 10 ).
According to crisis authorities under the ministry of agriculture, about 752 people have also been hurt in an official statement.
A significant swath of commercial and residential areas were destroyed by the typhoon’s landfall on Vietnam’s northern coast on Saturday, leading to heavy rains that resulted in dangerous floods and landslides.
According to the company and the state media, many rivers in northern Vietnam have risen alarmingly high, leaving settlements and private areas flooded.
A 30-year-old bridge over the Red River in the northeastern state of Phu Tho collapsed on Monday, leaving eight missing, according to a declaration from the municipal Women’s Committee.
