Two New Zealanders killed by avalanche in Hokkaido

The Wellington-based foreign ministry announced on Tuesday ( Mar 12 ) that two New Zealanders had died as a result of an avalanche in Japan.

According to a speech from New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japanese police confirmed that two New Zealanders “have sadly passed away” following an avalanche.

A government spokesman said the New Zealand Embassy has offered diplomatic support to the families of the victims.

No additional information may be made for privacy-related causes, they continued.

The New Zealanders apparently died while skiing in the mountains at Mount Yotei, which is located 90 kilometers from Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido, where they were killed.

According to local media studies in Japan, two persons, a man and a girl, were taken to the hospital indifferent following the deluge. They were afterwards declared dead.

A third party was hurt to the back.
