After unsuccessful attempts on Wednesday evening to urge security personnel to surrender, two rebels were killed in clashes with security personnel in the Thung Yang Daeng region of Pattani.
Around 7:30 p.m., more than 50 soldiers, officers, and authorities surrounded a rented home in this southern boundary province after learning that suspected insurgents were hiding inside one of the 11 column houses.
Residents of local neighborhoods were instructed to leave to protected areas by security personnel.
The suspected rebels opened fire with battle arms, leading to an exchange of gunfire, despite work coordinated by local officials to urge those inside the home to turn themselves in.
An armed vehicle was stationed in the area to stop gunshots from hitting civilians, according to television news at 9 p.m.
Security personnel reached the rented home owner at about 10 p.m. and discovered a code hidden in the back yard. The soldiers then used the major to break into the home, where inside they were greeted with gunfire and returned fire.
