Tourist dies after boardwalk collapses near popular bridge in Taiwan

A wooden walkway leading to a well-known suspension bridge collapsed on Wednesday ( Nov 13 ) in Taiwan, killing an elderly tourist and injuring four others.

The 3 m-high beachfront reportedly collapsed as the subjects of the popular tourist attraction in Chiayi’s Alishan Township, Fumei Suspension Bridge, gathered for a group photograph at around 4 p.m. &nbsp,

The survivors, part of a 44-person visit group from Miaoli County, were taken to the hospital. A 76-year-old lady who suffered a head injury after died.

The various four remain in stable condition, said the Chiayi County Fire Department.

The Red Cross Society of Taiwan gave the construction of the Fumei Suspension Bridge to the Alishan Township Office in 2011 for control, and it was there with funds from the organization.

The event is being looked into by Chinese authorities.
