“I think easily hadn’t booked that will job, I would’ve started transitioning a lot sooner, ” Dorfman told Rachel Bilson on her podcast “Broad Ideas. ” “I think due to the fact my work becoming (sic) so associated with my body and like face and like identity, and whatever I’d been recognized as, it delayed several of my growth and maturation in my mid-20s. ”
Dorfman mentioned she was solid on “13 Reasons Why” at 24, and even then she was combating gender dysphoria. But around the series, a controversial but widely watched teen episode that premiered within 2017, Dorfman performed a gay, cisgender male, a situation that will led her to “compartmentalize” the parts of her that wondered her identity.
“For me, I feel such as I kind of got stuck in time for the minute, ” the lady said of her casting on the show, for which she also expressed gratitude. “When this came to anything around dysphoria or sex or stuff that acquired already been really existing, I was like, ‘nope, that’s not for now. ‘”
