A study group from Chulalongkorn University’s Biology Department has discovered a novel snake species 2.5 cm long in Kaeng Krachan National Park.
According to the Facebook Page of Kaeng Krachan National Park, the new species is named” Scorpiops ( Euscorpiops ) krachan” to honour the place in which it was found.
The spider is from the Scorpiopidea Kraepelin community and was discovered in November 2022 by a study group led by Wasin Nawanetiwong, a PhD scholar, together with his assistant, Asst Prof Natapot Warrit.
The findings were published in ZooKeys, a stare- reviewed available entry scientific book, in March this time.
According to Mr Wasin, the varieties is “very small”.
The analysis team collected three grownup men and one child women for study with the help of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Conservation.
The males and females were both 21.7 to 26.9 millimeters, according to the researchers, while the females were 25.9mm.
Euscorpiops krachan snakes have a system that is reddish in color, with females being darker than males.
The revelation highlights the diversity of the forest of Kaeng Krachan National Park, a World Heritage site, in Phetchaburi, he said.
