Three men detained under ISA after radicalisation triggered, accelerated by Israel-Hamas conflict

WORKED WITH Toys Weapons

Muhammad Indra Aqmal Effendy, 21, was working as a pull engineer at the time of his incarceration.

His radicalisation started after Hamas ‘ Oct 7, 2023 strikes against Israel. He began to read online articles about the Gaza conflict, which reported Palestinian civilians being killed by the Israel Defense Forces ( IDF).

&nbsp, He even came across fundamentalist materials on military warfare and death.

He became angry with the Army after being physically affected by the Palestinians ‘ struggling, and he soon became deeply committed to Hamas in Gaza.

He aspired to death as a hero while fighting and said that he thought this was a legitimate type of military warfare.

Indra researched probable travel routes in order to prepare for his trip to Gaza. He located a foreigner who lived online and was based in the Palestinian territories and who he believed may be able to assist him in getting around Gaza.

He also made arrangements to be” combat-ready”, said ISD.

He “developed his unarmed combat skills by performing sheet function conditioning exercises at home,” according to the organization, “having a background in fighting arts.”

He also practiced using his toy guns everyday to reload and pull the trigger to increase his muscle memory when handling weapons.

Indra looked online for shooting peaks in Batam to find places where he could practice with real weapons.

VISITED SHOOTING RANGE IN BANGKOK

Mohamad Latiff Rahim, 41, was a producer of a digital marketing company when he was arrested.

He was stationed in Bangkok when he returned to Singapore.

He had started down” the course of radicalisation” in 2010, after he began consuming website content on” Muslim eschatological predictions relating to the End-of-Times”.

Over the years, he became convinced this may result in his life, and it was his spiritual work to combat alongside the troops, or soldiers, against the “enemies of Islam” during this period.

Hamas ‘ attacks on Oct 7, 2023, and the war rise to contain Iran encouraged Latiff that the End-of-Times was inevitable.

This led to his desire to commit military robbery.

He viewed the Army and the Jewish state as “enemies” for inflicting struggling on the Palestinians.

” Latiff, aShi’ite Muslim, regarded Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as the predicted leader who would guide the military to fight against the’ opponents’ during the End-of-Times”, said ISD.

He resisted Khamenei’s plan to call for Muslims to carry out military warfare. He was prepared to take a stand in the Middle East and travel there to fight alongside Iran’s martial or violent organizations like Hezbollah.

Even before the latest Israel-Hamas fight, he had made arrangements for his plans to engage in armed conflict.

Latiff took a tour of a firing range in Bangkok in September 2022 to get acquainted with weapon.

He “ramped up” his real education to become combat-ready in Bangkok by practicing stabbing and slashing gestures with home knives at least four to five times a month.

He” simulated attacks on crucial body parts like the chest and throat veins,” according to his simulation.

ISD claimed that he had no particular attack plans against Singapore, but that he was willing to follow Khamenei’s instructions, including setting up attacks there.
