SINGAPORE: Three men have been arrested after a fight broke out along Orchard Road in the early hours of Sunday (Aug 14) morning.
The police were alerted to the fight at about 5.15am on Sunday.
“All the suspects involved had fled prior to the police’s arrival at the scene,” said the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in a news release on Monday.
Through investigations and images from police cameras and close-circuit television cameras, officers established the identities of three men purportedly involved in the fight and arrested them.
The arrested suspects, aged between 20 and 30, will be charged in court on Tuesday with rioting. If convicted of rioting, they can be jailed for up to seven years and caned.
Two men, aged 20 and 30, who are believed to have been attacked during the fight suffered minor injuries, the police said, adding that investigations are ongoing.
Footage of the fight was posted on social media. In the video, a group of people can be seen punching and kicking a man dressed in black. Another group is seen kicking and stomping on a person on the ground.
“The police will not tolerate such brazen acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law,” said the SPF. “We will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.”
