Three dead in blast during Catholic Mass in Philippine university gym, say police

MANILA: According to police, three people were killed and nine others were injured when an explosion tore through a Catholic Mass on Sunday ( Dec 3 ) in the southern Philippines.

Brigadier General Allan Nobleza, the local police director, told reporters that the authorities are looking into the Mindanao State University explosion. He added that one possibility is that militants who support the Islamic State might exact revenge.

Marawi, a town that extremists had been encircling for five months in 2017, was the scene of the explosion.

In a martial activity the day before in Maguindanao del Sur state, the Spanish military claimed on Saturday that they had killed 11 militants, including members of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Philippines.

In a statement, Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. said,” I condemn the harsh attack incident that occurred this morning.” Because education institutions foster a culture of peace, terrorist attacks on them must also be condemned.

The act of violence that took place during a religious gathering has left Mindanao State University “deeply saddened and appalled,” the university posted on Twitter. ” We categorically condemn this foolish and horrifying act in the strongest terms feasible.”

The university announced that groups would be suspended until further notice. &nbsp,
