Three arrested after Spanish tourist gang-raped in India

According to local media reports, three men were detained on Saturday ( Mar 2 ) after the gang rape of a Spanish tourist on a motorbike ride through India’s remote east with her husband.

The pair had stopped for the evening in a tent the night before the attack, which occurred in the Dumka area of the eastern condition of Jharkhand.

According to police agent Pitamber Singh Kherwar, the woman was able to achieve a police patrol vehicle at approximately 11 p.m. local time and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Kherwar claimed that the police were looking for more suspects and had detained three individuals in connection with the strike.

According to reports, the Spanish lady is receiving treatment at a nearby hospital in Dumka, and an investigation is pending.

According to data from the National Crime Records Bureau, nearly 90 assaults were reported daily in India in 2022.

However, a large number of cases remain unreported as a result of the stigma surrounding patients and a lack of trust in officers studies.

In India’s blocked criminal justice system, convictions are still uncommon, and circumstances frequently drag on for years.

In 2012, the infamous gang rape and death of an American student made international headlines.

Jyoti Singh, a 23-year-old physiotherapy scholar, was assaulted, raped, and left for dead by a girl on a vehicle in New Delhi in December that year.

The tragic violence led to the introduction of the death sentence for rape and weeks of protests over India’s higher levels of sexual violence.
