Thaksin to appear at court inquiry

According to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, his daughter, Thaksin Shinawatra, past leading Thaksin Shinawatra may be present when the Supreme Court opens an investigation on June 13 over allegations that his jail sentence may not have been properly enforced.

She said yesterday that Thaksin confirmed this during their meeting on Monday. This contrasts with a past report in which Winyat Chartmontri, Thaksin’s attorney, stated that he would not appear at the hearing in person and would instead send his written defense.

The Medical Council of Thailand (MCT) made the decision to impose punitive sanctions against three specialists for his controversial remain at the Police General Hospital ( PGH). The MCT’s walk has given the question whether Thaksin’s prolonged treatment outside of jail was actually sufficient to support his continued poor health.

Ms. Paetongtarn reiterated monday that her parents had a serious illness that required him to receive constant care from his time abroad until his release from Thailand.

After centuries of self-imposed exile abroad, Thaksin was released from Thailand and given an eight-year prison term. Following the royal mercy, the sentence was afterwards reduced to a year.

The Department of Corrections transferred Thaksin to the PGH on August 22, 2023, his first day in prison, citing his grave health conditions, where he remained until he was granted parole in February of last year, a move that raised concerns in the eyes of the public regarding whether he had received particular care.
