
After the previous Thai leading was appointed as his assistant on Asean politics, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with Thaksin Shinawatra.
On Friday, Mr. Anwar claimed to have met Thaksin, whom he called a “dear companion,” to talk about bilateral and regional problems, including efforts to bring about peace in southern Thailand and the Myanmar issue. He posted a message on X, previously Online.
The Indonesian prime minister said:” Thaksin’s unmatched network of relationships across the area, coupled with his special skills, promises to open valuable opportunities for Malaysia and Asean to tackle these issues with greater confidence and effectiveness.
On December 16th, Mr. Anwar and Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra held a joint press event in Putrajaya to reveal the visit of her father as his unofficial adviser on Asean problems.
Malaysia does take the helm of the local grouping starting in February.
Mr. Anwar did not make the location of the Thursday meeting public known.
According to The Edge Malaysia, Langkawi area was chosen to host the discussions.
On Thursday, Thaksin was seen sailing from Koh Li Pe in Satun state on a pleasure yacht to an unfamiliar area, according to Indian media reports.
The Indonesian prime minister’s meeting with Thaksin took place in Phuket in May 2024.
