Thailand is on track to discard all foam waste by the year 2027, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Thalerngsak Phetsuwan, the agency’s assistant continuous minister, on Wednesday said such efforts are part of the president’s initiatives to reduce plastic use under the agency’s plastic waste management roadmap for 2018 to 2030.
At a meeting to mark Earth Day, which falls on April 22, Mr. Thalerngsak stated that the strategy was created because of concerns about waste management regarding the rise in single-use plastics.
The private sector has been asked to help the government produce recycled plastic materials after having discussed the problem with them. Due to their reuse restrictions, it is anticipated that single-use, skinny plastic bags will no longer be available on the market.
In accordance with the president’s bio-circular green market plan, the Department of Pollution Control is currently working on a law to encourage plastic recycling.
” We are currently experiencing a lack of landfills because of the growing amount of waste,” he said.” All spend should be recycled.”
Mr. Thalerngsak expressed confidence in the country’s ability to implement the plan nicely because it is now equipped with green recycling technology. Additionally, the nation has previously outlawed the importation of plastic waste, which may lower the country’s plastic scraps.
The Department of Climate Change and Environment’s assistant director-general, Pavich Kesavawong, stated that the office fully supports the bio-circumstance green economy program aimed at reducing plastic waste.
He said the ministry is collaborating with 31 licensed coffee shops and restaurants, totalling 9, 530 stores global, to cease the use of plastic products, including sticks and plates.
On Earth Day, we will publicly announce our cooperation in order to lead the way toward sustainable development and create a new mode of use.
The United Nations Environment Program ( UNEP ) made Earth Day to raise awareness of environmental issues. This year’s design,” Planet vs Polymers”, aims to raise global recognition of the plastic waste problems.
Environmental advocates for a 60 % decline in plastic production by 2040 and for the creation of a plastic-free future for all future generations.
