Thailand ex-PM Thaksin gets royal pardon, parole ends Aug 18

BANGKOK: Thai former prime minister&nbsp, Thaksin&nbsp, Shinawatra was included in a royal pardon for prisoners and his parole will end on Sunday ( Aug 18 ), his lawyer Winyat Chartmontri told Reuters on Saturday.

Thaksin’s pardon had been expected to stop at the end of the month. The earlier end is part of a public royal pardon for prisoners who behaved honorably on the situation of King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s day last month.

He returned to Thailand in 2023 from 15 times of self-imposed captivity.

He was found guilty of violating the throne and having conflicts of interest, and the king after reduced his sentence to a time in jail.

After serving six months in jail, Thaksin was released on parole on February 18.
