Maris, a foreign minister, outlines the nation’s trade policy at the Brics officials ‘ gathering in Brazil.

According to Foreign Affairs Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, Thailand is still committed to international trade rules set forth by the World Trade Organization ( WTO ) and will work toward cooperative solutions in the current uncertain environment.
On the eve of the most current Brics Foreign Ministers ‘ gathering in Brazil, Mr. Maris spoke with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Mr. Maris noted that Thailand has adhered to the WTO’s concepts and does work with all events to get productive solutions, citing the global business scenario and the international trading system as two important topics that were raised.
Thailand has even stated that it is ready to cooperate more closely with Russia and China, according to the foreign secretary.
Discussions with China included boosting cooperation in various areas, including promoting trade, investment, and transportation, as well as strengthening cooperation under regional frameworks like Mekong-Lancang Cooperation ( MLC ).
According to Mr. Maris, the discussions with Russia included pursuing a free trade agreement between Thailand and Eurasia as well as expanding participation in commerce.
Thailand’s standard membership in a Brics gathering as a partner nation was at the Brazil event, which Mr. Maris had described as a significant opportunity for it to contribute to developing cooperation among developing nations.
Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia are all members of the Brics, a group of key emerging economies.
Following an earlier proposal from Russian President Vladimir Putin when Russia held the alliance in 2024, Thailand was one of 13 official Brics new companion nations that signed on January 1. Brazil holds the head right now.
