Bangkok: On Tuesday ( Mar 12 ), the Thai election commission approved a resolution requesting a court to dissolve the opposition’s Move Forward Party ( MPF).
The move came after the Constitutional Court ruled in January that MFP, which won the previous year’s general election, had violated the constitution by proposing to change a legislation prohibiting insults to the king, claiming that the plan was a covert attempt to undermine the strong crown.
The Election Commission said in a speech on Tuesday that there is “evidence that MFP undermines the democratic system in which the king is the head of state.
The Election Commission voted unanimously to request the Constitutional Court to break MFP after considering and analysing the Constitutional Court’s decision.
