In a rare international trip by a common wrestling with a legal battle at home, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra met Myanmar’s coup key on the outside of a regional summit in China on Thursday.

Myanmar’s ruling government has been engaged in a revolt since it seized power in a 2021 revolt, and it has largely ignored calls from its neighbors in Southeast Asia to end hostilities and strike up a dialogue with its allies.

During an interview with Thai writers, Ms. Paetongtarn described her conference with Senior Gen Min Aung Hlaing as” we had a private talk and there was nothing unforeseen.”

I pleaded with our good will to bring harmony.

Fighting between the two nations has occasionally impacted Thai border business and the two countries ‘ 2, 000-kilometer border. Thousands of refugees from Myanmar, some of whom have been in Thailand for years, live in tents in Tak and Mae Hong Son state.

Ms. Paetongtarn urged increased cooperation with Myanmar at the Asean summit in Laos last month, arguing that there was” no military solution” and that it was “time to start talking.”

She also hinted at Thailand’s help for the regime’s proposed election next year, a program Asean has so far been afraid to mention in its official claims.

The election has been extensively denounced as a farce and has been largely unaccredited by western institutions due to opposition parties having been barred from or refusing to participate in.

On Thursday, Paetongtarn said Myanmar’s fight was an internal affair which it must control, according to Indian advertising.

The two leaders were attending summits of the Greater Mekong Subregion and the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Co-operation Strategy ( Acmecs ) in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province.

Due to the insufficient progress made in the Asean-led harmony plan, Min Aung Hlaing is prohibited from attending Asean conferences. His international trips have been few, generally to Russia, a follower of Myanmar’s defense and important supplier of its arms.

His first visit to China, a powerful neighbor, since the revolution of 2021.

He met with Foreign Premier Li Quiang on Wednesday, and he also spoke with Thai Prime Minister Hun Manet, who claimed the colonel had hoped the country’s problems had been settled calmly in the near future. &nbsp,
