Thai pandemic centre gets nod

Thailand continues to be chosen by Asean members to establish an Asean Centre regarding Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases.

Based on the public health long term secretary, Dr Kiattiphum Wongrajit, the unit may serve as a center of excellence plus hub to reinforce Asean’s capability to handle public health events and emerging diseases.

The project passed a feasibility study within 2020, which was supported by the Japanese federal government through the Japan-Asean Incorporation Fund. Last year, Tokyo also injected an additional US$50 million (1. 8 billion baht) towards the final stage of establishing an everlasting facility in a chosen country.

Thailand competed along with Indonesia and Vietnam to host the particular centre, with six Asean member nations expressing support pertaining to Thailand, he said.

The state opening ceremony will be hosted on Fri by Public Wellness Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Additionally , Dr Kiattiphum recently presided over the Apec Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) on the health working group, which runs from Monday to Friday recently. He mentioned the Covid-19 pandemic has raised the particular alarm following the demo of a clear link between emerging infectious diseases and economic collapse.
