Thai ex-cop denies changing evidence in Red Bull hit-and-run case

BANGKOK: &nbsp, A former senior Thai police officer denied charges of evidence-tampering on Tuesday ( Sep 10 ) in a deadly hit-and-run crash involving an heir to the Red Bull fortune more than a decade ago.

It is the first time someone has appeared in court on charges linked to the 2012 accident, in which Vorayuth” Boss” Yoovidhya was accused of ploughing his Ferrari into a officer’s motorcycles, killing the agent on the spot.

In a reading in Bangkok, past federal police chief General Somyot Poompanmoung, a previous deputy attorney general, and six people denied allegations of misconduct and cover-up.

The situation has much captivated the Thai people as a clear example of what reviewers call the impunity enjoyed by the village’s super-rich and well-connected.

Vorayuth was accused of causing death by reckless driving and possessing improper materials, but he dodged the prosecution and fled Thailand shortly after the incident, going back to his hometown next year.
