44 former MPs from the now-dissolved Move Forward Party ( MFP ) will be charged by the National Anti-Corruption Commission ( NAC ) for violating ethical standards for their support of a bill amending Section 112 of the Criminal Code, also known as the lese-majeste law.
One of the 44 past MFP MPs, Rangsiman Rome, has been given a summons to answer the questions and provide justifications for their proposal to amend Section 112.
Mr Rangsiman, then an MP for the Women’s Party, posted on Twitter after receiving the letter, which was signed by NACC director Witthaya Akhompitak, head of the research committee.
He is instructed to look before the committee in response to complaints of grave social wrongdoing in order to propose changes to the Criminal Code. The NACC claimed that its research had found sufficient evidence to support the claims.
Mr. Rangsiman argued that proposing a constitutional change shouldn’t been viewed as a felony because it is required of an MP.
No law specifically forbids MPs from altering Part 112, according to him, and the MFP has actually submitted its policy recommendations to the Election Commission. He argued that their actions did not violate moral requirements. He also criticised the NACC’s “remarkable performance” in pursuing claims against all 44 Members, while facing continuing charges in other situations.
He found it ironic that a credible organization was looking into elected officials ‘ political wills in order to exercise their congressional authority.
He also questioned why opposition MPs ‘ concerns about the energy struggled while opposition MPs ‘ concerns about them progressed quickly. ” I really wonder what requirements the NACC is operating under”, he added.
Previous MP for both the now-defunct Potential Forward Party and the MFP, assistant government official Karom Phonphonklang, claimed he had never been involved with the article proposal because he had been barred from participating in group activities since joining the MFP.
However, he insisted that even if he had been involved, he did had opposed the article.
Areas 326 and 328 of the Criminal Code protect “everyone, including regular folks.” He claimed that Part 112 protects the king from both direct and indirect criticism.
” The king is our most critical institution, as it provides security and strengthens the state”. Despite having previous wars, he said he wouldn’t criticize his former coworkers, adding that “having the electricity does not mean they can do anything they want.”
