Thai corrections dept denies error over Thaksin parole date

The Department of Corrections ( DoC ) has denied making a mistake by defining August 31 as the day that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s sentence is officially ending.

Thepthai Senpong, a previous Democrat Party member, raised doubts about the time in a statement from the section on Monday. &nbsp,

According to Mr. Thepthai, DoC director-general Sahakarn Phetnarin and righteousness permanent secretary Pongsawat Neelayothin gave two times, one of which was given by Mr. Thepthai.

According to Mr Pongsawat, Thaksin’s word was to actually lapse on Aug 22. But, Mr. Sahakarn stated that on August 31 the former prime minister would be legally completely. Thaksin’s standard launch marks his execution of the 180-day pardon he was granted. &nbsp,

If the DoC stood by the Aug 31 time, it may mean Thaksin began his pardon on March 5, which issues with the agency’s own statement that Thaksin’s pardon commenced on Feb 18, Mr Thepthai said. &nbsp,

According to the former Nakhon Si Thammarat MP, Thaksin would be deemed to have begun his parole quickly if he had signed up on March 5 but really started it on February 18th.

After 15 years of self-imposed banishment, Thaksin finally arrived in the nation on August 22. He was taken to the Supreme Court that evening, where he received a three-year jail sentence. By royal mercy, that statement was afterwards reduced to a year.

Because he had neck pain, hypertension, and lower blood oxygen levels, doctors decided to transfer him to the Police General Hospital on his first day at Bangkok Remand Prison.

Within the 120-day glass until December 22, Thaksin was legally permitted to go home from prison, but the DoC granted him the right to be there. Thaksin was given a parole and released from the hospital on February 18.

The DoC announced on Monday that although Thaksin fully acknowledged his eight-year jail term on August 22, 2013, the mercy that reduced his total prison term to one time was obtained nine days later or on August 31 of last year.

Actually, Thaksin’s one-year prison sentence ends on Aug 31, the ministry said.
