Teaching assistant gets jail, caning for sexually abusing 11 boys at after-school care centre

SINGAPORE: Over seven years, the teaching assistant in a after-school care centre sexually abused 11 boys between the age groups of nine and 13.

The man, now 30, was on Mon (Aug 22) sentenced to 42 years’ jail and the statutory maximum 24 shots of the cane after he  pleaded accountable to six counts of aggravated sex-related assault.

Fifty-four more charges, which includes aggravated rape along with other sexual offences, had been considered for sentencing.

The names of the offender and after-school care centre cannot be published as this can result in the identification of the victims, who are protected by gag orders.

“This is among the worst cases of paedophilic sexual abuse of young boys that has come prior to the courts, ” prosecutors told the courtroom.

BACKGROUND TO OFFENCES

The person spent his principal school years on the centre and ongoing to visit it by means of secondary school and National Service, when he would bring as well as drinks, and enjoy basketball with ex-students.

REBUFFED VICTIM’S MOTHER

One more student at the center, identified in court papers at V7, had been abused from the regarding 11 to 13.
