The Narcotic Drug and Chemical Substance Control Command Unit of the Northern Border ( Taskforce 35 ) updated on Tuesday regarding the accomplishments made over the past six months in thawing narcotics along Thailand’s borders, revealing that almost 130 million illegal pills have been seized.

The work force was involved in 74 opioid drug businesses over this time, 30 of which resulted in shootouts, according to Gen Narit Thawonwong, the captain of Taskforce 35.

In 40 circumstances, the work force made arrests, with four of those cases resulting in additional inquiries and asset seizures.

Nevertheless, 1, 507 defendants were arrested, while 25 people died during the activities, Gen Narit said.

Authorities seized at least 129 million meth tablets or ya ba, 1, 890 kilos of crystal meth or ya snow, 249kg of cocaine, and 188kg of natural heroin, he added.

Following next December’s announcement by the authorities to close 11 northeastern border districts with drug-strengthened areas, the job force’s activities took place.

This involved the towns of Fang, Chiang Dao, Chai Prakarn, Mae Ai, and Wiang Haeng in Chiang Mai state, and Mae Chan, Mae Fa Luang, Mae Sai, Chiang Khong, Chiang Saen and Wiang Kaen in Chiang Rai state, said Gen Narit.

The government even ordered a 90- time drug reduction operation in seven more districts– Chiang Rai’s Thoeng district, Mae Hong Son’s Pai and Pang Ma Pha districts, Phayao’s Phu Sang district, Nan’s Chaloem Phrakiat district, and Tak’s Pob Phra and Mae Sot districts, on May 16, said Apikit Chrojprasert, the director of Narcotics Control Office Region 5.

In another development, the Wiang Haeng city of Chiang Mai and a drug network clashed. No injuries were reported.

Six suitcases containing 1.2 million tablets were seized by authorities.
