UBON RATCHATHANI: According to authorities, a tambon captain in the Khuang Nai area of this northern province has been detained on suspicion of extorting bonus money from his employees.

On Friday, Yurawat Thongpha, 65, the head of the Ban Thai tambon administrative organization ( TAO ), was detained while taking part in a sporting event at the school.

According to a problem, Mr. Yurawat had demanded that his employees give up 10 % of their bonuses—roughly 2, 000 ringgit per person, in&nbsp—in exchange for his signature, which would have given them an extra New Year’s reward. He allegedly stole a total of around 68, 000 baht.

He is accused of wrongdoing and extortion. He has refuted every accusation.
