Taiwan president says island ‘will not bow’ to China’s pressure

Taiwan: President Lai Ching-te asserted on Wednesday ( Jun 19 ) that China was making an effort to subdue the island, but that it would not bow to pressure.

Taiwan is regarded as a part of China’s province and has pledged to use force to annihilate it until Beijing takes control of it.

Beijing has increased military and political pressure on the Taipei authorities in recent years, with the most recent example of power occurring three times after Lai’s opening, when China held war games on the island.

Lai stated at a media conference on Wednesday, his second month in office, that the People’s Republic of China’s “national policy” includes Taiwan.

They have increasingly used non-traditional methods of persuasion to try to push Taiwan into submission, he said, adding that they have used military power as well.

” However, Taiwan did not bow to the stress. Taiwan’s citizens will steadfastly defend the free and democratic constitution and its people’s independence.
