TAIPEI:  , Taiwan’s defence ministry said on Saturday ( Jun 22 ) it had detected 41 Chinese military aircraft around the island in a 24- hour window, a day after Beijing said “diehard” advocates of Taiwan’s independence could face the death penalty.
China claims Taiwan, which it has self-ruled democratically, as part of its territory and has stated that it will never use pressure to deliver it under Beijing’s power.
Following next month’s inauguration of innovative Japanese leader Lai Ching-te, the island has experienced increased stress on Taipei in recent years and organized war games.
The Taipei defense government announced on Saturday that it had spotted 41 Chinese military aircraft and seven marine vessels sailing around Taiwan during the 24-hour period leading up to 6am.
According to a statement from the department,” Thirty-two of the aircraft crossed the middle range of the Taiwan Strait,” which is a line that separates Taiwan from China’s 180 km of lake.
The government continued, adding that it had “monitored the circumstance and responded consequently.”
