TAIPEI: According to Taipei authorities, China flew 28 warplanes around Taiwan on Sunday( Sep 17 ), the majority of which crossed the Taiwan Strait’s median line for unspecified” long-range” missions.
20 of the plane that have been spotted since Sunday night, according to Taiwan’s defense department, have entered the southeast and southwest air defense identification zones of self-ruled islands after crossing the middle waterway separating Taiwan from mainland China.
The defense ministry stated in a statement that China was carrying out” operations such as long-range activities and coaching” and that it was keeping an eye on the scenario with patrol aircraft and boats.
Beijing asserts that democratic Taiwan is its own place that could one day been taken by force if necessary. As relationships have deteriorated in recent years, it has increased military and diplomatic pressure on the beach.
Following Beijing’s declaration that its troops were on” higher alert” in response to two ships from the United States and Canada passing through the Taiwan Strait this month, Taipei reported an increase in attacks by Chinese planes and ships last week.
