US House passes Bill to force ByteDance to sell TikTok or face ban

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, TikTok CEO Chew Shou Zi may travel to Capitol Hill on Wednesday for a previously scheduled meeting to meet with legislators.

The company stated before the voting that” this policy has a predetermined results: a complete restrictions of TikTok in the United States.” The state is attempting to revoke the Constitution’s protection for 170 million Americans, it continued.

Biden stated last week that he had sign the bill.

Jake Sullivan, a top adviser to the White House for national security, stated on Tuesday that the purpose was ending Chinese ownership rather than outlawing TikTok.

” Do we want TikTok, as a system, to be owned by an American corporation or owned by China? Do we want the information from TikTok- son’s data, adults ‘ data- to get going, to become staying around in America or going to China”? he said.

It’s unclear whether China would consent to any sales or if TikTok’s US resources may be sold in six weeks.

If ByteDance did n’t comply, app stores owned by Apple, Alphabet, Google, and others could not legally offer TikTok or offer web hosting to applications that were ByteDance-controlled.

The judges thwarted his attempt to boycott TikTok and Chinese-owned WeChat in 2020, but the process was overturned. He had recently raised fears about a restrictions. Tencent’s Twitter and other well-known Chinese-owned programs may be subject to a ban under the law, but it’s not clear whether this is the case.

Any forced TikTok withdrawal from the US would almost definitely face legal problems, which the business would need to document within 165 time of the president’s approval of the bill. After the firm filed a lawsuit, a US prosecutor in Montana blocked the state’s restrictions on TikTok usage in November.
