SURAT THANI: After two centuries on the run, a 60-year-old Finnish man wanted on drug expenses in Bangkok has been detained on Koh Samui.

On Thursday evening, immigration officials detained Reino Pentti Olavi Martin in a car park in front of rented housing on the southwestern holiday island of tambon Bo Phut.

On February 25, 2021, the Bangkok South Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Martin, 60, for the illegal possession of glass with the intent to buy.

In 2020, he was detained in Bangkok’s Thong Lor neighborhood and given bond. He did, however, jump bond, which prompted the court to issue an arrest warrant for him.

The arrest, according to Pol Col. Suparuek Phankosol, commander of Surat Thani immigration police, occurred after officials learned that the Finnish national was wanted in Bangkok from the alert system of the Immigration Bureau.

Additionally, the report indicated that his card had expired on December 22, 2021. Because he was active on Facebook, soldiers started keeping an eye on his whereabouts and found that the suspect had been staying on Koh Phangan and Hoh Samui ever since his immigration expired. They first accused him of overstaying his card when they caught up with him.

Before being turned over to the Bangkok South Criminal Court to handle the drug offense, he was sent to Bo Phut law place to answer the card cost.
