Singapore University of Social Sciences ( SUSS) announced on Tuesday ( Mar 25 ) that its sixth school, for social work and social development, will open in the third quarter of 2025.  ,
The single two universities in Singapore that offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in social labor are SUSS and the National University of Singapore, respectively.  ,
Provost Professor Robbie Goh made the announcement by noting how many people in the social job field experience fatigue after a while.  ,
He continued, adding that SUSS currently enrolls about 250 students in all of its cultural labor programs annually.  ,
While we’re making good progress, we hope the new School of Social Work and Social Development may increase capacity and enable us to do a lot more to support this crucial business, said Professor Goh, noting that this was a good time to update the syllabus.  ,
The new college will continue to offer SUSS’ existing three part-time and one full-time programs, including the full-time and part-time Bachelor’s degree in social function, as well as the part-time Masters education and graduate certificate in social function, according to SUSS in a brief on Tuesday.  ,
The full-time education program enrolls kids once a year in August, while the part-time programs enroll students half a year in January and July.  ,
Dr. Vincent Ng, the CEO of Allkin Singapore, may become appointed as the school’s Dean. One of the largest social service organizations in Singapore is Allkin Singapore, which was formerly known as AMKFSC Community Services.  ,
Dr. Ng has an associate university position at SUSS and, according to Prof. Goh, brings with him “wealth of knowledge.”  ,
The S R Nathan School of Human Development is hiring all 10 full-time university members who are already a part of the social function team, with plans to add more full-time faculty members, according to SUSS.  ,
Students will choose “areas of focus” that correspond to various social work practice with the new academic curriculum, and their practicum experience will correspond to the chosen areas.  ,
Protection, household social work, children’s and youth function, eldercare, disability services, adolescent justice, penitentiary, and healthcare are the areas of concentration.  ,
According to SUSS in its factsheet, the academic curriculum will also be simplified with grad offerings that promote the older interpersonal worker’s development in the numerous areas.  ,
According to the college, this will also give those who might want to pursue careers in social work or to create complementary skills opportunities.  ,
