Surat Thani halts all island ferries as storms pound region

SURAT THANI: Every island ferry solutions were halted as ships and boats were ordered to remain ashore until a minimum of Tuesday as thunder storms whipped up higher seas in the Gulf of Thailand.

The prohibit covered ferry solutions from Surat Thani to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan plus Koh Tao plus from Koh Tao to Chumphon.

Surat Thani governor Wichawut Jinto said on Monday that the suspension associated with services was a basic safety precaution as the Meteorological Department issued a storms and tough seas warning for that gulf.  

“All boats are ordered to not leave districts situated on the coast of the Gulf of mexico of Thailand, which includes ferries, ”  the particular order said. It was in force until 5am on Tuesday.

The weather workplace said waves up to three metres higher were expected in the southern region until Thursday.

The department’s forecast is for rain, sometimes heavy, in most parts of the country, including Bangkok and adjacent provinces, until Thursday.
