Supermarket ‘slugger’ in Trang province rejects bail

Hue: The Swedish gentleman who assaulted and critically injured a Thai girl at a mall rejected the bail offered by his previous Thai wife and remained obstinate with police handling the case.

Local tourist authorities said yesterday that the Trang Provincial Court had set parole for Dieter Matthias Straumann at 50, 000 baht. His ex- woman appeared at the jury with an property worth 50, 000 baht to pursue his momentary release.

But, the 62- yr- old rejected the guidance, insisting that he did not want any contact with the Swedish embassy or his relatives. He even insisted that he wanted to remain in jail.

The soldiers handling the case have requested multiculturalism officers to stop him from leaving Thailand in case he is briefly released pending trial.

It was reported that the suspect declined to answer authorities investigators or sign any document acknowledging the costs against him. He faces claims of physical abuse causing serious injury and rebellion against officials for failing to engage with authorities interrogators.

Authorities on Wednesday sought a judge purchase for his first 12- time detention.

According to reports, Mr Straumann constantly punched Natchanan Khikkham, 58, at a Big C shop in Muang area on Tuesday after shoving her when she told him to remain respectful.

The girl suffered a broken head, swollen eye and again, and had trouble breathing.

Her brother, Kritpong Khikkham, said the family intends to take all possible legal actions against him.

He said Mr Straumann pressed his knee on his mother’s throat and punched her about 20 days, suggesting that an attempted murder charge should also be considered. His family may need care for four to six weeks, he quoted a dentist as saying.

Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said monday that rules had been strictly enforced in the case because a member suffered abuse.

” We do not need for a person in Thailand because he poses a danger to society, and he already used murder and injured another”, he said.

” The man stays because he has a card, and the issue of visa renewal may be considered”.
