Super Typhoon Yagi kills 2, injures 92 in China

After crashing into southern China’s Hainan island on Saturday ( Sep 7 ), Super Typhoon Yagi killed at least two people and injured 92 others, according to state media reports from Beijing.

The wind lashed Hainan with big rain and windy breezes, leaving at least two useless and 92 injured, state-run news agency Xinhua said, citing local government.

Yagi, according to state broadcaster Video, caused the island’s 460, 000 residents to be forced to flee after bringing gusts of more than 230 kmh, cutting branches, and causing the evacuation of around 460, 000 individuals.

The wind made land Friday on Hainan, a favorite vacation place.

The island’s major airports in Haikou was closed until 3pm on Saturday, according to state broadcaster Video.

Officials in the nearby province of Guangdong announced on Friday that they had evacuated more than 574, 000 people to health.

Yagi, which was still a tropical storm, killed at least 13 people in the Philippines before this year, before becoming a very storms over the next few days.

After passing through southern China, the storm may travel to Vietnam and is expected to hit the north and north-central areas of Halong Bay on Saturday.
