Study findings on portability of Integrated Shield Plans to be shared by end of the year

Minister of State for Health Rahayu Mahzam stated in parliament on Monday ( Sep 9 ) that the Ministry of Health ( MOH) intends to share its findings from a study on the portability of Integrated Shield Plans by the end of the year.

In addition to MediShield Life, Singapore’s national health insurance plan, Integrated Shield Programs offer exclusive insurance policy.

Ong Ye Kung, the health secretary, stated in April that this year the feasibility study, which was first announced in 2021, might be finished.

Authorities have recently stated that Integrated Shield Plans does have portability, or the ability for one to switch health insurers, which could lead to pressure on insurers to reduce costs or raise premiums in order to maintain viability.

Ms. Rahayu reiterated that the portability of Integrated Shield Plans is a “very complex matter” that may have “unintended consequences” in response to a question from MP Tan Wu Meng ( PAP-Jurong ).

In summary, she said,” When each insurer is unsure about the risk they have to bear, premiums may go up.” &nbsp,

” We are really looking into this ( and ) we intend to share our findings by the year’s end.”
