Striking Indian doctors want demands met before returning to work

West Bengal: Junior doctors in India’s state of West Bengal vowed on Tuesday ( Sep 10 ) to continue a protest strike unless their demands were met, breaking a Supreme Court deadline.

The woman was found dead on August 9 in a class at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the state capital, on August 9 and is in need of better safety and fairness.

The West Bengal Junior Doctors ‘ Before said it would” ponder” the judge’s order only if its requirements were tackled by the date.

” Then, we will realize that the state does not wish to end the deadlock”, the group, which represents about 7, 000 surgeons in the state, said in a statement on Monday.

” In that case, we may hold the government accountable for the state-level position.”

Better safety measures, closed-circuit television (CCTV ) cameras, adequate patient care in government hospitals, and the removal of the city’s police chief are among the demands.

” We do n’t see a single CCTV camera being installed after the incident”, said Dr Shubhendu Malik, a spokesperson for the junior doctors at the RG Kar hospital. ” There is no room, no distinct restrooms for men and women”.
