In a move to return the sidewalks to pedestrians, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration ( BMA ) has ordered street vendors to leave the footpaths along Lang Suan Road in Pathumwan district.

Governor Jakkapan Phiewngam, a lieutenant governor of Bangkok, who went to the place on Tuesday to check on the progress being made on the footpaths near the Chit Lom crossing, along with assistant town clerk Supakrit Boonkhant, to enforce the ban.

From 6am to 3pm, street vendors had been permitted to possess particular Lang Suan Road streets. Twenty-eight suppliers agreed to the agreement and were permitted to sell their goods along the route.

The sellers agreed to leave the area and accepted the BMA’s choice, according to Mr. Jakkapan. Some moved to outside sois, while people decided to return to their communities, he said.

Staff from the Pathumwan District Office started restoring the place and cleaning up the area after the last contractors left on Tuesday. &nbsp,

According to Mr. Jakkapan, vendors in the area have also been informed that they will no longer be able to prepare food or buy goods on the road because of Pathumwan District Office’s plans to improve the footpaths along Witthayu Road. Offenders face a fine of up to 2, 000 ringgit, he said.
